Warzone uses Ricochet — Activision's kernel-level driver anti-cheat. It's more sophisticated than EAC or VAC, but external cheats still bypass it. The bigger threat in Warzone is the shadowban system.
Ricochet vs External Cheats
Ricochet's kernel driver monitors memory writes and injection attempts. An external cheat that only reads memory via standard Windows calls is invisible to it — the driver has nothing to hook. The Warzone build here is fully external.
The Real Threat: Shadowban Matchmaking
Warzone shadowbans work by putting cheaters (and suspected cheaters) into separate lobbies full of other shadowbanned players. Signs you're shadowbanned:
- Matchmaking takes 5–15 minutes
- Every lobby is full of blatant cheaters/hackers
- No visible ban message — game seems normal
Shadowbans are issued based on reports, not technical detection. Enough reports = shadowban, regardless of cheat status.
Avoiding Shadowban
- K/D cap — stay under 4:1 per match. Warzone averages are 1.2–1.5. Dropping 20+ kills per match flags you.
- No wall-bang kills — shooting through walls you "shouldn't" see through is the #1 report trigger.
- Use radar ESP instead of boxes — minimap overlay gives positioning info without obvious wall-watching behaviour.
- Don't stream — streamers with suspicious stats get mass-reported by viewers.
- Account age — shadowban threshold is lower on fresh accounts. Let a new account warm up for 10–15 matches before enabling cheats.
If You Get Shadowbanned
Wait 2 weeks (most shadowbans expire). If hardware banned — HWID spoofer before creating a new account.
Shadowban Lobby Detection Via Match ID
Shadowban lobbies have a distinct signature in the matchmaking API response. The game client receives a lobby ID prefixed with 'SB' when placed in a shadow pool, visible via packet capture tools like Wireshark filtering on port 3074. Normal lobbies use numeric IDs. Checking this before each match prevents wasting time in compromised pools. The SB prefix appears in the initial handshake, not in the post-match summary, so you must inspect the raw traffic. A second indicator is the player count at launch: shadow lobbies often start with 60–80 players instead of the standard 150. Third-party tools like the CoD Tracker app can flag shadow status by analysing your recent match history for abnormal K/D distributions—specifically, if your last five matches show opponents with K/Ds above 5.0 consistently, you are almost certainly shadowbanned. Verifying exit from a shadowban requires playing five consecutive matches with normal lobby IDs and average K/D opponents.
Ricochet's Server-Side Statistical Detection
Ricochet does not rely solely on kernel-level memory scans. Since the 2024 update, it runs server-side heuristics on shot accuracy and reaction time. A player who consistently achieves 95% headshot accuracy across 200+ engagements triggers a manual review flag. The threshold is not published, but community data shows accounts with hit distribution above 80% in the upper torso and head are monitored. This detection works even for fully external cheats because it analyses gameplay telemetry sent to Activision's servers. The system compares your aim path smoothness against a baseline of human input; sudden 180-degree flicks with zero overshoot are flagged. To avoid this, limit snap accuracy to 70–75% and introduce deliberate jitter in aim movement. The 2025 Season 3 patch added a 'humanisation' check that compares mouse movement variance to a Gaussian distribution—too-perfect curves are detected. Tools that implement procedural noise generation pass this check; those that use linear interpolation do not.
HWID Spoofing Failure Cases On Warzone
HWID spoofers often fail on Warzone because Ricochet checks disk serial numbers, SMBIOS UUIDs, and network adapter MAC addresses simultaneously. A spoofer that only changes the volume serial number will be detected within 24 hours. The 2025 version of Ricochet added a check for the ACPI table signature; spoofers that modify it without updating the checksum cause a system crash on game launch. Common failure: using a free spoofer that changes the registry MachineGuid but leaves the hardware fingerprint intact. Verifying a successful spoof requires running a tool like HWID Checker after spoofing and before launching Warzone—confirm that at least five identifiers (disk, SMBIOS, MAC, CPU ID, and GPU UUID) have changed. A hardware ban typically lasts 60 days; after that, the original hardware can be reused without a spoofer. Attempting to bypass a hardware ban with an incomplete spoof results in an immediate permanent ban on the new account, not a shadowban.
