Most cheat bans in 2026 don't come from anti-cheat software detecting your tool — they come from other players reporting suspicious behavior. This guide covers both the technical and behavioral side.
The Two Types of Bans
- Technical detection: Anti-cheat finds the cheat software. Use external, uninjected cheats.
- Report-based review: Humans or AI review your gameplay. This is the bigger risk.
Behavioral Rules
- Don't spinbot or rage: Obvious cheating gets mass-reported. Play legit or soft-legit.
- Miss shots on purpose: 100% headshot rate is a dead giveaway. Aim for 55–65%.
- Don't track through smokes: This is the #1 tell in CS2 Overwatch reviews.
- Limit sessions: 2–3 hours per day. Long sessions accumulate reports faster.
- Mute yourself: Don't brag or act suspicious in voice chat.
Technical Checklist
- ✅ External loader only (no DLL injection)
- ✅ HWID spoofer if you've been banned before
- ✅ Close Discord overlay, GeForce Experience overlay
- ✅ Run cheat before launching the game
- ✅ Use a separate account for cheating
Which Games Are Riskiest
| Game | Risk | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Valorant | High | Vanguard + active human review |
| CS2 | Medium | Overwatch crowd-review |
| Apex Legends | Medium | EAC kernel + report waves |
| Warzone | Low | Large playerbase dilutes reports |
| Rust | Low | EAC, but limited review staff |
HWID Spoofing Is Not Permanent
A spoofer changes the identifiers a game reads, but which identifiers it reads varies by title. Valorant's Vanguard pulls serial numbers from the SMBIOS, disk, GPU and network adapter, and it re-reads them on every boot. If you spoof only the disk serial, a Vanguard ban wave in early 2026 will still flag the SMBIOS UUID within two or three sessions. CS2 is lighter, reading the Steam account link plus a handful of registry keys. Verify a spoof before burning an account by checking serial numbers in a tool such as HWiNFO64 or by running wmic csproduct get uuid in an elevated command prompt after a reboot. A good spoofer should return a different UUID each restart. Free spoofers often write static values, so a hundred users share one identifier and get flagged together. Kernel-level spoofers that load before Windows starts the storage driver are more reliable than user-mode ones but can break bitlocker and cause boot loops on motherboards with secure boot enabled.
Why Overlay Hooks Get Flagged
Many players blame the cheat when an anti-cheat catches them, but the vector is frequently a legitimate overlay. Discord, GeForce Experience, MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner and OBS all inject DLLs into the game process, and each one opens a handle the anti-cheat must evaluate. Easy Anti-Cheat has flagged RivaTuner's RTSSHooks64.dll in several Apex Legends updates, and BattlEye has done the same with older Afterburner builds. The result is a false positive that costs the account without any cheat being loaded. Close every overlay before launch, then confirm none has reattached by checking the game's loaded module list in Process Explorer. Steam overlay is generally tolerated but Community Overlay in particular has been used to inject render layers. The safe rule is a clean boot: kill overlay processes, disable their autostart entries in Task Scheduler, then launch the game, load the tool and only then start anything you need. OBS game capture should be set to Windows 10 capture method rather than hook capture.
Trust Scores Accumulate Across Accounts
Anti-cheats no longer ban per account alone. Riot's Vanguard and Valve's VAC Live both build a trust score that follows hardware and network identity, so a fresh account on the same machine inherits prior flags. A 2025 Vanguard ban typically included a fingerprint of the machine and a set of network identifiers, meaning a new account on that hardware can be shadow-flagged from the first match. The same applies to Steam, where a VAC ban on one account increases scrutiny of others logged into the same device and IP. Check what links your accounts before creating a replacement: the same phone number, payment card, email domain and even MAC address can connect them. Rotating the MAC address is a two-minute change in Device Manager but many people forget it. A separate account with its own payment history and phone number on a different machine survives far longer than a fresh account on a flagged one, which is the failure case most people discover after the fact.
